Description: A few weeks ago Tom Fadrhonc and Huib Wursten gave an interesting presentation for AmCham members on cultural differences and the implications for businesses in the US and Europe. Quite a few people had follow up questions and expressed a need to go into depth.
On April 8 Tom and Huib will again give a session on cultural differences. Again they will discuss the 5, 6, 7 model based on the most repeated research and focus on its implications. In addition, they will make an analyses of the cultural context of the current financial crisis.

Four hundred years ago, a Dutch ship called the Half Moon sailed to the shores of what is now Manhattan Island with Captain Henry Hudson at the helm. This lead to the establishment of New Amsterdam and the New Netherland colony. Some 167 years later, in 1776, the Dutch were the first to salute the flag of the United States of America. NY400 celebrates the free spirit, openness, entrepreneurship and tolerance of those Dutch-American pioneers and their impact on international relations today.

Building on his experience as Chair of the Social Platform Rotterdam, Pieter Winsemius will focus on two burning social issues: the high number of high school dropouts and of prenatal deaths. The AmCham is positively involved in the first area, but especially at the lowest educational levels a still broader approach is needed to keep the most vulnerable youths aboard. The Dutch death rate during pregnancy and immediately after birth has been increasing and has reached unacceptable levels. Rotterdam hospitals have taken the initiative for a breakthrough approach. Pieter Winsemius co-leads the fundraising for this promising innovation.
