Terneuzen, 4th of November 2015

With the opening of the ultramodern security center for Europe, the Middle East, Africa and India (EMEAI), His Majesty King Willem-Alexander launched the symposium celebrating 50 years of Dow in Terneuzen. With the new infrastructure in the security center and the associated education and training of staff, Dow is ready for the future. One that includes more transportation to Africa. The facilities in the security center enable Dow to fulfil its pioneering role in the field of security management in Zeeland, the Netherlands and further afield.

It is no coincidence that the King’s grandfather, Prince Bernard, officially opened Dow Terneuzen in 1965. The King attended a jubilee symposium held after the opening in honor of the 50th anniversary of the establishment of Dow Terneuzen, and many of Dow’s customers from the Benelux were present. With the motto ‘We are Tomorrow’, a look at the future was given during the symposium by the futurist Thomas Frey. Dow has been a pioneer for years in terms of sustainability and has set great ambitions in that area for 2025. One of them is realizing a sustainable society in new forms of public-private partnerships.

Andrew Liveris (CEO Dow Chemical), Paul Polman (CEO Unilever) and Thomas Frey debated about global megatrends during the symposium. In 2030 there will be approx. 8.3 billion people in the world. That means 50% more food, 45% more energy and 30% more water will be required while at the same time the discharge of hazardous substances will have to be reduced by 40%.

AmCham is proud of its loyal partner and Patron Member Dow, that has played an active and important role in the AmCham Community for decades.
