Legal Committee

The Legal Committee reviews the developments in the main legal fields relevant for US-related business activities in the Netherlands, such as company law, labor law, legal compliance and competition law.

Meeting dates for 2011 are:

The March meeting was held in the offices of Greenberg Traurig and focused on class action litigation in the USA and the EU. Guest speaker was Philip Sellinger of Greenberg Traurig LLP in New Jersey who spoke on the US experience.  Committee member Jeroen Ouwehand (Clifford Chance) spoke on the developments of class action litigation in the EU.

The June meeting was held at Schiphol Real Estate and focused on data protection in the national and international context. Guest speakers and discussion leaders were Vroukje van Oosten Slingeland, Head Legal IT and Procurement & Privacy with ING Group and Hester de Vries, Partner, Kennedy Van der Laan.

An extraordinary meeting of the Committee was scheduled on June 29 at Greenberg Traurig. Speaker on international trade issues was James Bacchus, a former chief judge on the Appelate Body of the World Trade Organization (WTO).

The September meeting (held at Kennedy Van der Laan) focused on the use of warranty insurance in M&A deals. Speakers were Henk Bijl, Director of M&A Solutions with Aon Nederland and Committe member Paul Cronheim. In November the meeting was held at Baker & McKenzie where Misha Lutje Beerenbroek (a partner here) led the discussion on FCPA and the recently implemented UK Bribery Act and other anti-bribery laws in an international context.
