AmCham The Netherlands is the voice of U.S. business in the Netherlands and for all companies involved in transatlantic trade. Our mission is to ensure that the Netherlands remains a competitive environment for our member companies to invest in. Therefore, we also invest in the future generation of leaders by offering young professionals of AmCham member companies, and similarly aligned organizations, a unique cross-company YP program with a focus on networking, skills and inspiration.

Following successful editions of the AmCham Young Professionals Awards in 2013, 2015 and 2017, AmCham is proud to announce the AmCham Young Professionals Award 2019, in recognition of the talent and leadership among our young professionals.

The Competition - On the Move!

The AmCham Young Professionals Award 2019 challenges participating teams to think of creative solutions for the great mobility challenges of our time - and we mean mobility in the broadest sense: mobility of GOODS, of PEOPLE, of KNOWLEDGE, of DATA, of ENERGY, into SPACE, within CITIES and in HEALTHCARE. Teams can pick the subject of their choice and are asked to solve the dilemmas and think of the opportunities presented in the case. We hope to see original ideas, well substantiated and well presented.

The Cases

The cases have been prepared by AmCham's Young Professionals Committee. Participating teams are requested to inform us of the topic of their choice when signing up for the challenge (final choice should be submitted no later than September 6).

The competition is open to members of the AmCham Young Professionals group and young professionals working for member companies of the American Chamber of Commerce in The Netherlands.

  • Team up with your colleagues or compose a cross-company team
  • 2 to 4 people per team
  • 25-35 years of age
  • Living and/or working in the Netherlands

Sign up your team by filling out the form and emailing it to office@amcham.nl as soon as registration opens on June 6. If you are not subscribed as a Member of AmCham YP yet, no worries: you can participate! Be sure to contact us by email first.

How to Prepare?

To come to an in-depth understanding and substantiated solution, participating teams are encouraged to:

  • Be informed: become familiar with existing initiatives, trends and technologies in the domain of your choice;
  • Be clear about the challenges you aim to solve (problem definition);
  • Push boundaries and prove it works;
  • Think big: try to identify areas to which your solution could also build a blueprint (potentially in other industries or domains);
  • Present how your solution will make an impact and to whom - in a creative and appealing way (make your presentation look great).

During the first round, the jury will evaluate all submissions in closed meeting (no presence of participating teams or audience). Teams can hand in their contribution in any form they like. There is only one guideline for the format of your contribution: you should be able to convey your story to the jury in 5-10 minutes. We encourage creativity! The jury will select 6 finalists to pitch and demo their product on stage during the Grand Finale on November 15, 2019.

Criteria

The jury will take into account the following criteria:

  • Feasibility of the solution
  • Originality and boldness of your solution
  • Impact of your solution
  • Quality of the presentation / pitch

Timeline

Participating teams should register no later than September 6 and are asked to send in their contribution by October 18, 2019 – 12noon. In the week of October 21, our esteemed jury will evaluate all contributions on 4 criteria: feasibility, originality, impact and quality of the presentation. Six finalists will be selected and announced on October 25. The finalists can further develop their solution and pitch throughout November.  On November 15, 2019 all finalists will pitch and demo their product during the Grand Finale.
