Coca-Cola First Soft Drink Brand in the World to Start Using Innovative KeelClip™ Packaging

Published:

November 18, Coca-Cola in the Netherlands announces the introduction of the KeelClip™, the new minimalist cardboard packaging for multipacks. This step enables Coca-Cola to save 350,000 kg of virgin plastic every year, using cardboard for outer packaging instead of the current plastic shrink wrap. The company is investing over 14 million euros in its local factory (in Dongen) in a new can line and packaging machine that will make it possible to use this innovative outer packaging as of next year. Coca-Cola will launch the KeelClip™ packaging on the Dutch market in the first half of 2020, making it one of the first companies to do so.

Jaap Wassink, VP & Country Director of Coca-Cola European Partners Nederland says: ‘We are working on making our packaging as sustainable as possible. This is nothing new – we've been working on this for years. Examples of our activities include making our packaging lighter and increasing the use of recycled materials. The step to start using minimalist cardboard packaging for multipacks is a very important one in further reducing the use of packaging materials.’
