On October 28, AmCham, together with Flint Global, hosted a discussion at the Van Gogh Museum in Amsterdam on how the Netherlands and Europe can strengthen their competitiveness and economic resilience in an increasingly uncertain global environment.
Sir Julian King, former European Commissioner and Specialist Partner at Flint Global, opened the event with a keynote on Europe's position amid growing geopolitical competition. This was followed by a panel discussion with Michiel Sweers, Director-General for Foreign Economic Relations at the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and Barbara Baarsma, Chief Economist at PwC Nederland.
The discussion explored how the Netherlands can remain an attractive destination for international investment, addressing challenges such as grid congestion, labor shortages and regulatory barriers. Particular attention was given to the importance of innovation, productivity and stronger cooperation between business and government to support long-term economic growth.
The afternoon concluded with an introduction to Vincent van Gogh's Almond Blossom at the Van Gogh Museum.
