Going for Gold Dinner 2017 with Ralph Hamers, CEO of ING Group

Published: November 29, 2017

November 29, 2017 - Yesterday we welcomed many AmCham members to the InterContinental Amstel Hotel for our annual Going for Gold Dinner. We were honored that Ralph Hamers, CEO and Chairman of the Executive Board at ING Group, accepted our invitation to be keynote speaker on the evening.

As main sponsor of the evening Delta Air Lines was represented by Jan Feenstra, Sales Manager Netherlands and North Europe and Corneel Koster, Senior Vice President EMEAI. During a short presentation Corneel shared some highlights of Delta’s future plans.

For the second time this year, Delta Air Lines raffled two Delta One tickets to any destination on the U.S. Mainland. We congratulate the lucky winner of McKinsey with this amazing price!

After the first course, it was time for Ralph Hamers’s keynote speech. He started with warning all executives present that every single business can and will be disrupted. One of the biggest threats for the banking industry is that people don’t have time these days, and even if they did, they don’t want to spend it on banking.

Ralph described how people nowadays are on their mobile phones. “This is where people spend their lives these days.” Ralph said that if you want to be relevant as a bank, you have to be where people are.

“They’re not on the street. You can’t reach them with your branches. They have no interest. They’re spending their lives on social media. Posting their blogs, making their comments, posting their pictures. They’re buying stuff on Amazon.”

AmCham would like to thank Delta Air Lines, ING Group and the InterContinental Amstel Amsterdam for their support in making this a successful event.
