On April 2, AmCham hosted an event, Tech Innovations in Sports: The Next Frontiers at the Johan Cruijff ArenA. To open the event, Myron Gebbink of Only Friends, a sports club for young people with disabilities, shared the club’s history and impact over the last 26 years. He emphasized the importance of the club in bringing equality to sports, giving people a real chance to train and play. Since its launch, Only Friends has grown to over 800 athletes, 200 volunteers, and has developed its own arena.
The event took place during Lenovo’s Innovation Showcase. Following Mr. Gebbink’s presentation, AmCham guests were able to explore Lenovo's latest developments, and participate in a blind soccer game to donate to Only Friends. After the showcase, Dr. Mauro Arruda, Director AI Center of Excellence EMEA at Lenovo, discussed what tech advancements are elevating sports currently, and stressed the role responsibility and security play in future advancements.
