Webinar - Reflections on the Dutch General Elections 2023

Published: November 23, 2023

On November 23, Peter van Keulen, Board Member of AmCham and Founder at Public Matters, shared initial reflections on the Dutch General Elections outcome and offered a preview of the upcoming weeks and months, including potential consequences for business.

The exit polls indicate a majority of seats for the PVV, with GL-PvdA coming second followed by the VVD. The new parliament is expected to have 15 parties. Peter van Keulen discussed what is set to unfold in the coming months, reflecting on the possible options for coalition formation and key issues that will be raised.

During this election campaign, certain key issues were not widely addressed, namely healthcare, the investment/business climate and foreign policy, all of which are important for the private sector.

For businesses, maintaining a consistent and long-term policy is crucial in the upcoming months. The private sector should continue demonstrating its active and involved role in Dutch society and engage in a sincere dialogue. The rules of engagement with new Members of Parliament and the future cabinet are also notably a discussion within AmCham.

AmCham cordially thanks Peter van Keulen for the insightful discussion.
